As much as we would like to believe that bad things always happen to

someone else; in reality, to others, we are that someone else. As parents we spend a lot of time, energy, and money to enhance the prospect of our children having a safe, healthy, happy and productive life. Preparing children for the realities of life is a parent's responsibility. Education prepares the mind. Medical and dental care prepare the body. Religion, good family values, and common courtesy prepare the spirit.
What about preparing for the possible physical confrontation with a really bad person? What are you doing as a parent to prepare your child or yourself for the day when you may be forced to defend yourself or your family? Many parents worry about their children being safe on the streets. The well being of a child can be threatened by adults as well as other children. With Shintaikido training a child can learn to think and defend himself instead of panic in a threatening or potentially dangerous situation.
By learning Shintaikido, children can be prepared to either walk away from a confrontation with pride or to defend themselves and not become a victim. Learning Shintaikido can enhance the positive qualities you are instilling in your children. The Shintaikido experience offers your child a chance to develop his or her self-confidence, learn respect for others, and learn the rewards of discipline and hard work.
Self-confidence does not come naturally for many children; rather it is developed over a period of time. As a child successfully accomplishes and reaches new goals, his or her confidence level grows. Shintaikido teaches effective self-defense, but more importantly, it teaches self-esteem, self-confidence and self-discipline. Each child progresses individually and every child is involved. There is no bench warming in Shintaikido. Each child can reach his or her own potential at his or her own speed. The goal is to create a positive experience for each child. In Shintaikido every child is a winner.
Shintaikido of Pacifica specializes in teaching children a solid philosophy of self-control, respect and goal setting. In turn, the student experiences success and achievement, they receive recognition as they progress and meet the challenges offered them. This allows children the chance to develop their self-esteem and the necessary leadership qualities to succeed in school and in life. Shintaikido challenges the entire body. It helps develop balance, agility, poise, and dexterity often neglected in most team sports. Shintaikido lessons are dynamic and challenging for children who are athletic, energetic, awkward, shy, bold, nice or maybe just a little wild once in awhile. Shintaikido is probably for kids just like yours.

To The Parents:

To The Parents

A note to Mom and Dad about what we do here at this Dojo.

Sparring

Rolling

Friends

As you travel up the mountain,
make friends with everyone that you meet.
You'll see them again on the way back down!

Earning a Black Belt means that you've learned the rules of respect.
This lets you be a beginner.
A beginner is the coolest thing that you can be.

Weapons are always treated with the greatest respect! We use wooden weapons. Treat them as though they were made of steel.

Throwing

Ninjas

Our Ninja classes are on Saturday mornings and really big fun for the little ones.

These 4 & 5 year olds learn how to stay away from strangers, how to fall properly, how to stretch, and a little about punching and kicking. This is mostly an anti-kidnapping and safety class, since we don't want to create little gladiators.

Stretching
We always stretch before we train.

What direction do
you go first
for any stance?

If someone tries to punch you, DON'T BE THERE!!!

The best thing about Shintaikido is that there is no end to the road.

The Mountain just keeps on going up!

Girls are usually better at the tricky parts of Shintaikido because they
don't try to force things into place.

Rangers

Our Ranger classes are offered two times per week and really big fun for the aspiring students.

These classes present a variety of basic techniques which lay the groundwork for what they will be doing in the regular Junior classes.

As the students progress, they earn patches for their knowledge. First, the Tiger Patch, followed by the Dragon Patch, the Bushido Patch, the Big Dragon Patch, and finally, the Master Tiger Patch. Once they've earned their Master Tiger Patch, they're ready for the regular Junior classes.

Regular Junior Classes

Once you're ready for these classes, you begin to learn how to work with partners. I teach how to get out of the way of attacks, punching, kicking, throws, falling and rolling, and weapons (wooden). Everything is done with safety in mind. This means safety for you and your attacker. You learn to protect your attacker. This is pretty different from alot of martial arts, but it REALLY works great. And it makes you a better person.

"Do" - Way

The "way" is the path that you travel down in life. This is the Japanese letter for "Do". Say it like you say cookie "dough". In Chinese it is pronounced "Tao" like "wow".

Learning

Always try to study your art with your mind. This is the first step to true understanding.

Helping

If someone looks lonely or confused,
ask them if you can help them.

Shin - Tai - Ki - Do
Mind - Body - Spirit - Way

True martial arts teach
the whole person,
not just the body,
not just the mind,
not just the spirit.

Shintaikido
Shin - Tai - Ki - Do
Mind - Body - Spirit - Way

"Tai" - Body

Your body is what we see. It does the physical part of all techniques. Treat it well.

"Shin" - Mind

The mind is where we start everything. It's important to have an understanding of how a technique is built before we can do it. The mind fixes and polishes the art.

"Ki" - Spirit

"Ki" ("key") is the energy that makes you alive. It is not your soul. It is your spirit, attitude, positive nature. Ki is what makes a martial art like Shintaikido an ART and not just punching and hurting people. This is really important!
